I Need One of These! When I installed the Heapets Smart Bird Feeder Camera in my backyard, the impatient side of me was expecting for birds to show up immediately. Instead, I spent the first nine days shooing away the squirrels who were eating all of my bird seed (using an alarm feature on the app).
Because the feeder relies on WiFi, I had to place it relatively close to my house. I worried that human activity would keep birds away and that I had chosen a poor location.
Then, on Day 10, my first bird arrived. Over the next month, bird activity steadily increased. What started as a single visitor eventually grew into a record day of 36 birds, with 203 total visits recorded during the first 32 days.
Because, I love Data.
- It took 10 days for the first bird to appear.
- The feeder recorded 203 total bird visits.
- The busiest day saw 36 birds.
- Many of the highest activity days occurred on weekends.
Bird Feeder Camera vs. Trail Camera
I saw an ad on Amazon for this camera and honestly purchased it during an impulse buy. I found bird feeder cameras provide a completely different wildlife experience all together. This bird feeder cameras offers close-up views of bird, but motion isn’t triggered terribly far from the camera itself.
Be Patient :] Unlike me.
If you’re setting up a bird feeder camera, don’t get discouraged if nothing happens during the first week. Birds often need time to discover and trust a new food source.
In my case, a slow got me really excited when I was getting my first few, even 30+ days in, I get excited when I get a notification on my phone.
Don’t Forget A Large Memory Card!
